tops Software Programmer Among Apple Elite at Developer Conference
Attendees at sold out event get scoop on OS X and OS X iPhone
SAN FRANCISCO, June 13, 2008 — tops Software programmer Michael Ledford experienced the preview of the iPhone 3G, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and OS X iPhone operating systems at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference this week.
The conference is the most important annual event for hardware, software and mobile developers, including in-house developers, computational scientists, IT managers, and system administrators.
“The future looks very interesting for both platforms (OS X and OS X iPhone),” said Ledford, who leads the programming team for topsOrtho™, the leading Mac OS X-based orthodontic practice management system with imaging. “Apple is steeped in history and this conference is a major part of that history going back to 1983, when it was first held. To go is to become a part of Apple’s legacy and as a developer help shape the future.”
This year’s event sold out, with about 5,000 reported in attendance. Ledford attended about five of 40 sessions each day, as well as hands-on labs led by Apple engineers.
“There isn’t just a one-way communication from Apple to developers,” said Ledford, who arrived six hours early to secure floor seating at the event’s keynote address by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “Apple engineers speak to developers, allowing a better understand of the technology they are creating and what they intend it to do. Developers mingle with Apple engineers (during the labs), allowing questions and feedback on the technology, which allows them to help the platform as a whole.”
Ledford said many attendees came to learn more about programming for the iPhone — including those who were not previously Mac developers.
Also attending were former Vice President Al Gore, The Wall Street Journal tech expert Walt Mossberg and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. The Grammy-nominated rock band Barenaked Ladies performed at a finale beer bash.
