Q: How long have you been an orthodontist?
A: Since 2000. I practiced dentistry for five years with my father and always had a desire to go back and specialize in orthodontics.

Q: What’s unique about your practice?
A: My new office! We moved in a year ago. The feel is like a med spa or a Starbucks. It’s a real relaxing atmosphere. We have hand-held games, fresh baked cookies, and seven 42-inch TV screens in the waiting room.

Q: You switched to topsOrtho in the summer of 2008. Why tops?
A: I switched to a Mac for my laptop two years ago and everything was so user friendly. After that, Windows software seemed really clunky and hard to navigate. My network went down constantly, and the software program I was using wasn’t progressive enough.

Q: What were the biggest factors in your decision?
A: I wanted security, speed and reliability. I also wanted to access patient charts securely from home — not with a pretend screen, but the actual charts. tops does that beautifully.

Q: Was it difficult to switch from PCs to Macs?
A: Not at all. My staff keeps commenting that the Macs are so easy to use and they wish we’d done it sooner.

Q: What do you like most about topsOrtho?
A: There really isn’t just one thing I like most. I like how smooth it is and how intuitive the program is. I also love the imaging part of tops; it is so easy to use and I love having a patient’s chart and photos open at the same time, chair side. Patients are wowed and love how the imaging is set up. The visual part of tops is big for my patients. They want to feel like their doctor is using cutting-edge technology.

office-11Q: What surprised you most about topsOrtho?
A: How intuitive it is. You don’t have to think much about what you’re doing. And there are a lot of easy shortcuts within the program.

Q: What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
A: I like to golf, mountain bike, and go deep sea fishing.
