Updating your workstations

As of March 1, 2012, the most current versions of tops Software are:

topsOrtho™ 5.0
topsCephMate™ 2.1.2
topsEcho™ 1.0.5

topsOrtho is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard), 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and 10.7.x (Lion).

Apple software update procedures for tops workstations

When Apple releases an update to its operating system software, the tops Software programming team spends weeks carefully evaluating it to ensure compatibility with topsOrtho. We then send an “all-clear” email to let customers know it’s OK to update their workstations.

If you prefer to update sooner, follow this process to minimize the chance of office downtime:

Step 1 — Perform a backup. If you have any non-tops data or shared folders on your workstations, back up those files using whatever method you prefer. NOTE: You should be in the habit of backing up your topsServer every single day. See this link for information on backing up your topsServer.

Step 2 — Update one non-critical workstation and use normally for one week (non-critical = office could still function without this machine). If there are glitches after updating, please contact tops Support (770.645.2488) with specific details.

Step 3 — If there are no glitches during the first week, update two more workstations and use regularly for one week.

Step 4 — If all is well throughout the two weeks of usage, update the remainder of your workstations and topsCheck-in stations.

Caution: If you use this process, do not update your topsServer when you update workstations. This could cause your topsServer to temporarily stop working. Instead, please wait until you see our email letting you know it’s OK.
